MY LEADERSHIP JOURNEY
My journey as a leader began some 13 years ago while
still a primary school pupil. Back then, I was a school prefect and always
found time to share some good moral values with my friends. My leadership
journey continued in the year 2004 when I got to form one at Bilingual Grammar
School Molyko Buea, I was what we use to call pidgin prefect and a life coach
to some of my classmates. Three years after, We created the B.G.S Debate club
and in its first year of existence, we took part in African Renaissance
Ambassadors Debate (ARA) which brought together schools from all over the
country. We won all our debate matches except for the finals which we had
against a North West Team. A year after (2008), the leadership of the B.G.S
Debate Club was handed to me. In that year I started the B.G.S Inter-class
debate competition which made news in Buea. The competition did not only bring
together students of B.G.S but also brought together students from other
schools within Buea Sub Division. In that very 2008, I founded a group call the
Proud African writers (P.A.W) with twelve members and we wrote our first book
call “the priority of an African- Bushfalling” the book centers on the wealth
of the African continent and why Africans prefer the Western world. Still in
2008, I organized a seminar at B.G.S together with my P.A.W members to educate
fellow students on the values of education and peace. The seminar brought
together some past students of B.G.S and some peace experts as well as the
school authority.
In 2009, based on my activities and interest in
promoting the well being of the woman, I was invited to present a poem on Sunday
8 March 2009 (International Women’s Day Celebration) before the then
Governor of the South West Region and other top officials of the region.
From the year 2009 to 2011, I brought much glory to
Bilingual Grammar School Molyko by winning so many regional debates such as:
the great debates organized by Elyon Rock Foundation, The King David Square
Hotel Debate Challenge just to name a few. Still in 2009 I was an adviser to
most senior student who wanted to become school prefects. As popular as I was, I
became their campaign manager and held several meetings with them to educate
them on the qualities of a good leader.
In 2010, I myself became a school prefect, acting as
a technical adviser to both the student Government and the School
administration. I often met with the then Principal, Mr.Ewusi Mofem Nathaniel
(of late) to discuss students related issues and most of my proposals were
taken into consideration. Still in 2010, I won a prize in an essay competition
Organised by the Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa on the theme :
“Child Labour”. As a prefect of B.G.S Molyko, I had regular sessions to mold up
and motivate students. I became a role model to many and till today they still
look up to me.
In 2011, I had my G.C.E Advance Level and was called
up to work as mentor with National Orientation and Information Service Cameroon
(NOISE Cameroon). In that very year, I gained admission in the University of
Buea where the tempo of my leadership took a different dimension. In 2012, I was
chosen to be a peer educator with the ministry of Public Health. My job was to
educate students on HIV/AIDS during the University Games hosted by the University
of Buea. In 2013, I joined the University of Buea Commonwealth Club and few
weeks after, I was elected Secretary General. As an S.G of the Club, I was its
life wire. In that very year, I won a prize for the best poem at the first
Edition of the Cameroon Students Challenge organized by OPEN Cameroon
A year after (2014), I became the Club’s President. That
year, I took the club to its greatest height ever. I signed partnerships with
civil society organizations, Worked in close collaboration with the Vice Chancellor
of UB, the Ministry of External Relations (Commonwealth Department), the
Commonwealth Ambassadors for Cameroon, the Senate, the National Assembly, the
British High Commission, The Nigerian Consul General for South and North West
Regions, other regional Commonwealth Clubs. I also affiliated the Club with the
Commonwealth Youth Council in London and later gained full membership. As
president of the Club, I introduced a sustainable project known as the
Commonwealth Young Leaders Forum. The first edition held in 2014 under my guidance at Bilingual Grammar School Molyko Buea. The Forum brought together more than twelve schools from Buea Municipality and some government officials
from the South west Region.
Still in 2014, I was elected National Communication
Officer of Cameroon Commonwealth Students Union at Douala, I became a member of
the Justice and peace commission set up by the University of Buea to handle the
issue of students unrest. I co-founded an association known as Actions for
Change Cameroon and was given the honor by the Vice Chancellor of UB to organize
the First Edition of the University of Buea Open House Event
Apart from the Above, I have worked with Community
watershed development alliance, Rural Women Development Center, Organisation of
African Youths, Global Institute for the Family’s Integrity just to mention a
few. I am the Financial Secretary of my P.C.C Congregation (Presbyterian Church
Bokwai), former president of the Youth Group of that very church, the Sunday
School Head Teacher and children councilor. On the 1st and 2nd
of September 2015, I initiated and organized the first edition of the Bokwai
youth Leadership Forum which held on the theme: effective and participatory
youth leadership.
In my student cultural association, I am the
